The Mystery Writers of America is the premier organization for mystery writers and professionals allied in crime writing fields. Every year, the Mystery Writers of America host the Edgar Awards, widely recognized as the most prestigious award in the genera. Danielides Communications handles the promotional press leading up to the event and publicity for the winning authors. Held annually in April at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City, I was assigned seven nominated authors and tasked with pitching them to national and local media, obtaining media placements and booking interviews, and aided with the planning and execution of the event.
My nominees were:
- Best Short Story- Luis Urrea for his short story "Amapola"
- Best Television Episode Teleplay- Steven Kane for his work on "The Closer"
- Best Juvenile- Aaron Reynolds for his graphic novel
- Best Fact Crime- Dave Cullen for his book "Columbine"
- Best Young Adult- Dene Low for her novel "Petronella Saves Nearly Everyone"
- Best Television Episode Teleplay- George Mastras for his work on AMC's "Breaking Bad"
- Best Juvenile- Mac Barnett for his book "The Case of the Case of the Mistaken Identity," the newest installation of The Brixton Brother Series
By the end of the event, on April 29, 2010, I obtained 23 media placements and 15 interviews for my assigned authors, totaling about THIS MANY media impressions.
